55 Bulk Lot of Disco & House Music 12" Vinyl Records For Sale!

I'm selling of my older Disco/House Vinyl collection. These are great to add to an 80's collection, to go with other 80's dance classics. Some of these records are early Chicago House tracks (e.g. [Liz Torres feat.C & J] [Face It] [State Street] [1987]), and some others are original disco (e.g. [Boney M] [Kalimba De Luna] [Hansa] [1984]). I haven't played them for a long time, but they were all in good condition the last time I played them. Here's the eBay advertisement:

No Reserve auction for 56 Disco and House Vinyl Records, with a $0.10 starting bid!!

Most records are from the late 80's and most records are Disco with some being House tracks.

Records are in average to good playable condition.

Most of them are in their original record covers and the rest are in sleeves or plastic covers.

Perfect for a DJ/mobile DJ looking to expand their collection, as key and BPM information is provided on most record that have covers. Also, perfect to add to an existing 80's music collection for DJ gigs. The lot will also suit a record collector.

I'm selling them because I don't do private functions (e.g. 25th, 30th, 40th birthdays/weddings/engagements) anymore.

A listing is provided below, in the format is [Author][Title][Record Label][Year].

Latest Purchases from SubStrata

There's a huge sale on at SubStrata with all items at least 50% off, so I made full use of it. I bought 13 tracks for $110 (including registered post shipping), which comes upto AU$8.50 per record! That's the lowest I've ever payed for brand new vinyl. I picked a couple of gems including Chuck Love's 'Soul Symphony' (which I should have bought a long time ago!) and Kaskade's 'Gonna Make It'. Hope the records reach me by Friday so they can have their first spin on Sunday night!

Childs, Jake - Do You Feel Me: JT Donaldson rmx (12")
Chuck Love - Soul Symphony (12")
Cosy Creatures - Show U The Way (12")
Daniels, Chuck - The Get Back EP (12")
DJ Freestyle - Forest Lake Grooves EP (12")
Fiasco, Johnny - NRG 2 Burn Vol.2 (12")
Hogan, Slater & Chuck Daniels - Stay Tuned (12")
Johnson, Brett & Dave Barker - Silly String (12")
Kaskade - Gonna Make It (12")

Selling Old Equipment

I've been thinking about selling off my rack-mount CD players (Numark CDN-36) and old Numark CM100 mixer on eBay. They're both almost 3 years old. The mixer is in very good condition but one of the pitch controls in the CD players is a bit shakey. If I can sell both off for $350 I'll be happy -- maybe I can then buy a second hand CDJ100, which is much more portable. The main thing slowing me from selling them off ASAP is I don't have the original boxes, which means I'll have to go through a lot of hassle to pack them up properly so they can be posted!

Latest Purchases (from Substrata)

In my search for cheap records, I came across a limited time sale (30% off all stock) at Substrata, and bought the following for $12.50 each (on average)!

Childs, Jake - Bring It: Jay J rmx (12")
Da Sunlounge - Nite Calls (12")
Desmet & McCarthy - Disco Dust: Jason Hodges rmx (12")
Hogan, Slater & Chuck Daniels - Stay Tuned (12")
Jones, Bryan - Baby Fever: Youngman rmx (12")
Maeda, Miles - Hybrid House EP (12")
Natural Rhythm & Trap Groove - Dancefloor Jazz (12")
Town & Country - Love Could Be (12")

Compared to Waxonline and Mezabel, Substrata seemed to have a better collection of House vinyl, but the browsing options were a bit inconvenient. For one thing, they don't show a picture of the record cover until I click on the name of the album, and the music samples are only 1 minute long and are all in RealPlayer format, which I find a bit less convenient than MP3s.

Capital DJ @ High St. Prahran

Went to Capital DJ for the first time today. Found it by mistake while walking along High Street in search of a shop to get some wedding-invite related stuff.

I found Capital DJ to be a very nice store, although records are a tad more expensive than Rhythm and Soul (by around $1). Their West Coast House collection was good, probably as good as the Rhythm and Soul in the city. The guy at the store was very helpful and chose some real gems for me. I ended up only buying two records though, as I wanted to save some money for a record bag.

Along with records, they had plenty of other useful things -- record covers sold in bulk, a studio that can be hired for recording demos, and plenty of UDG record bags (trolley bags, small soft bags and large soft bags). There was a sale going on and the bags were about $20 cheaper than usual.

The turntables they had for listening were American DJ turntables and a 2 channel American DJ mixer per turntable. They had about 10 turntables around, which is a bit more than the Rhythm and Soul in the city (Lt. Collins St.). They also had some good speakers to play music out loud, which is similar to Rhythm and Soul.

20 Records for Sale on eBay!

I've put up some of my older Vinyls for sale on ebay. I just don't have the same taste in music as I did when I bought them! I'd classify them as 'funky house', but not really 'funky' in the 'chunky' or 'bumpy' Mark Farina / Joey Youngman style, but 'funky' in the 'vocal' / 'groovy', style if that makes any sense.

The item is on a 10-day listing with the starting price set to $0.99. I thought I'd do a bit of experimentation with a low starting price -- I haven't got much to lose! I'd be happy if I can get enough money from the sale to buy two new records.

More Gems from Collectors Corner Melbourne!

I went over to the city for a while today and thought I'd pop into Collectors Corner on Swanston Street since I hadn't been there for a long time. I used to go there often to buy Vinyl when I was just starting out -- since it was mostly second hand Vinyl, it was a good way to start my collection!

When I went over, I found that their house/techno/DnB section upstairs had closed down, but luckily they had a small collection downstairs. I started digging in and after just a few minutes I hit gold -- I found an Inland Knights double record, an Inland Knights remix, and a Fred Everything track! All 8 tracks of the Inland Knights double sounded great! I also found another good track with some quirky beats from an unknown artist. Best of all, I only payed $8 on average for each record (counting the double record as one)!!

I'm not sure if I'll ever get that lucky at Collectors Corner -- they don't seem to have a big House collection anymore and I think I finished looking at all the relevant Vinyl today. I may just have found the last few gems. Oh well...

Ortofon Concordes!!

Bought a pair of Ortofon Concordes from Rhythm and Soul!! Costed me $300. I was in a hurry to buy these because I needed them for the gig up in the Snow. I had only about 10 minutes to bargain at Rhythm and Soul, but the fella was good enough to reduce it to $300, from $318.

Technics 1200

Bought a Technics 1200mkII !! Cost me $500 which was a pretty good price for a second hand turntable less than a year old and in perfect condition. The dude had put up the advertisement up on inthemix.com.au and he was nice enough to drop it off. Have to buy one more turntable but one will do for now. I think my parents are planning to buy me the second one for Christmas woohoo! Hmm better not get my hopes up :-/

Collector's Corner

Bought 15 Vinyl's from a place called "Collector's Corner" just 10 minutes from RMIT! There was a special and most Vinyls worth around $10 were given to me for $4 because I bought in groups of 5. Most of the music was funky/disco house but some of them weren't upbeat enough for dancing -- but will do for the first hour or last hour at Lustre :-)

Records @ $1.50!!

Received 50x 12" Vinyl House/Disco Records I won at eBay. Most of these are old stuff but can't expect much better for $1.50 per record (including shipping costs). Have to either buy a second hand turntable to listen to these at home, or go to Lustre early and listen to some of them before I can mix them.

My first DJ Kit!

Received my Numark CDN-36 from the states, which I bought for AUS$ 750 including shipment! Thats a pretty good price I reckon compared to prices here in aussie. Before the CD players I had bought a cheap Numark CM 100 mixer, that didn't even have separate high/mid/lows for the 4 different channels (there's one equaliser for all four!). But turned out to be ok for practice. Altogether it costed me just under AUS $ 1000!
